4 July 2012-- on the road to Bursa

On the way to Bursa we have seen a wide variety of crops.... Onions, potatoes, pistachios, wheat olives etc. The land is very fertile here.

Bursa was the capital of the Ottoman Empire until the conquest of Constantinople (Istanbul).

Our lunch was at iskender (Alexander) Restaurant. While eating here, the governor of the province and a government minister made an appearance. The minister left shortly after we did and had to fly to eastern Turkey. Heavy rains caused a dam to burst and there were casualties. As you can imagine, the press was there to mark the visit, as well as security.

Outside the restaurant was a botanic garden, which afforded a pleasant walk after a nice lunch.
